Southeast Inspirational Choir loses Waters, Preacher

From GOSPELflava.com -- the Southeast Inspirational Choir, an aggregation that once counted gospel superstar Yolanda Adams among its ranks, has lost two of its pioneering members in the past two months:

Passing of Carl Preacher — GOSPELflava.com mourns the recent passing of Carl Preacher, known for his work with the Southeast Inspirational Choir, a member of the B,C & S Trio (together with Shirley Joiner and the late Brenda Waters). Preacher, an organist and vocalist, as well as a songwriter, had his own solo album on Savoy Records from the mid 1970’s, and recorded with The GMWA Mass Choir. (April 18, 2005)

Brenda Waters Passes Away — Gospel singer and songwriter Brenda Waters passed away on March 17, 2005. Known for her work in establishing the Southeast Inspirational Choir, for her part in the B, C & S Trio, and later for her work with Leonard Burke and the Voices of Praise and then Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers, Waters won a Stellar Award in 1999 for her project, Believers and Friends, on Crystal Rose Records. GOSPELflava.com joins with many in praying for her family, and in rejoicing in her life. (March 17, 2005)

Can You Believe This?
Appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over
you in the Lord and give you instruction, and that you esteem them very
highly in love because of their work (1Thes 5:12-13; NAS).

The nerve of Yolanda Adams not showing up for Ms. Shirley’s final rites,
Can you believe this, after all Ms. Shirley did to give her career its flight?
And what’s so killing about it is that she says she’s moved past those days,
While FM92.1 plays the wax off Carl Preacher’s song that gave her fame,
This is using folks for their gifts and throwing the person themselves away,
But Yolanda needs to understand civilized people don’t do things that way,
We must never forget where we come from since we’ve got to go back that way,
And people we step on our way up, we’ll see on our way down one day,
Yolanda is by far not the greatest voice but was well taught by her mentors,
It never ceases to madden and sadden me that she’d become their offender,
She’s no Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey but just knows how to sing,
Carl Preacher, Brenda Waters, and Ms. Shirley trained her voice to ring,
She need not preach on purpose when she is discourteous and ungrateful,
Her getting too big for her own britches will make her decline most hurtful,
She's a disrespectful ingrate, whose voice need not ever reach my ears,
I can’t look at myself in the mirror if I’d betray the ones I loved so dear,
Yolanda will learn the hard way we must honor our mentors in public,
Hopefully before God lets her know He doesn’t know her in judgment!
Fact is we never move past appreciating the bridge that brought us over,
Nor bastardize our friends with private owning and disowning them in public,
And if anyone deems me wrong for the manner I’ve voiced my cares,
Please? Just remember that a tree is known by the kind of fruit it bears.
