TBGB Pick of the Week: April 2, 2012

“Once in a Lifetime”
Smokie Norful
From the EMI Gospel CD Once in a Lifetime
(CD available April 3, 2012)

After a decade in the gospel music spotlight, Smokie Norful looks back and wonders how he got over. He articulates his autobiography on “Once in a Lifetime,” a delicate song beautifully and wonderfully made.

“I had a dream so big, made a mountain look small,” Norful sings with characteristic vocal embellishment. But with more victories and accomplishments, “the less it all seemed real.” The one true “meaning of your dreams,” he concludes, is a relationship with the One Above.

Reminds me of something someone once said: “The journey of life leads back home.”

“Once in a Lifetime” is the new selection, and the title track, of Norful’s “decade of hits” compilation, in stores tomorrow.
